GT40

GT40 is the first work in an evolving series titled Constructed Velocity, extending an exploration of movement that has long been present within my mechanical studies.

Rather than depicting speed through painted gesture alone, the image is physically divided into individual sections and reconstructed across the surface. Each element carries a fragment of the car before extending beyond it, creating a structure in which the GT40 appears to assemble and dissolve simultaneously.

Horizontal forms echo the direction of travel, while interruptions, overlaps and changes in depth prevent the image from ever becoming completely fixed. From a distance the familiar silhouette emerges; closer inspection reveals a constructed object made from separate parts, edges and traces.

The process builds upon an established visual language of fragmentation, movement and mechanical form, allowing those ideas to move beyond the painted surface and into the physical construction of the artwork itself.

Speed reconstructed as form.
