ROOM FOR RETURNING

Room for Returning explores the quiet relationship between material, structure and space.

Found papers, card and timber are assembled through an intuitive process of placement and balance. Horizontal and vertical divisions establish an underlying architecture, while differences in texture, weight and surface prevent that structure from becoming rigid.

At the centre, an area of gridded paper creates an unexpected openness within the composition. Surrounded by accumulated material, it becomes a pause — a space held rather than filled.

Edges remain exposed, surfaces imperfect and individual fragments retain their physical character. The work finds its resolution not through precision, but through the point at which each element appears to have found its place.

Form emerges not from filling the space, but from knowing what to leave open.
